Little Fork Church Notes From History July 25, 2024
I was fortunate to find, in our own Church records, a transcribed copy ofSaint Mark’s Parish Vestry Book & Levies 1730-1785, which I have scanned and made available in our Archive. Researching its origins led me to St. Stephen’s library where Julie Basic and I found the original. I hope soon to scan and make it available as well.
As mentioned previously in Notes, St. Stephens and Little Fork are a big part of St. Mark’s history it would only stand to reason that a lot of mentions of our Little Fork would be in those records. After going back to the vault at St. Stephens and offering my retirement time to help in organizing their library I feel as though I’ve struck the mother lode of history. Three very important books I have scanned can be viewed by clicking on the following;
St. Mark's Parish Register, 1794-1830.pdf
St. Mark's Parish Register Volume II, 1869-1888.pdf
St. Mark's Parish Leaflet, 1913-1935.pdf (Large)
Note the Leaflet is large and may have to be downloaded to be viewed. It is 419 pages but well worth the read since there are many references to services at Little Fork. It is also searchable.
Not so much for its value to history, but interesting to me because Bob Lee and I have recently visited Lamb’s Creek for the same reasons, the gentlemen referenced in a Letter from George L. Howe to Prof. Frederick Nichols July 6, 1968. If you didn’t see the article “Little Fork has a Twin” here is the link.
